October 4, 2011 - Last night we had a very successful fundraiser at the Royal East Restaurant on Main St. near Central Square. Longtime supporter Hong Liu helped organize the event, fundraise, and turn out a wonderful group of people. I spoke on some of my programs, including the Red Ribbon Commission and Baby University, and Hong translated. The question and answer portion gave me a great opportunity to hear from teachers, business owners, and citizens. We enjoyed delicious food and drinks and had a great time!

The participants in the event, including over 800 Cambridge senior citizens, the city council and school committee members, enjoyed coffee and lunch as well as music and dancing. Speakers in the event included elected officials, as well as candidates, and the hosts of the event. The new campaigning hand fans for the re-election campaign were also revealed and handed out to keep cool on this beautiful summer day.

City Council Meeting

Last night, August 1, the City Council met. Among our discussion items was the Office of College Success, based on Geoffrey Canada’s Harlem Childrens’ Zone (HCZ). I was inspired by a trip and workshop in 2007 to recreate the HCZ in Cambridge. I also introduced a resolution congratulating Carl Barron on his upcoming 95th birthday! Stay tuned for more info on this.

I also introduced a resolution thanking Boomerangs for opening a new location in Central Square. I really love Boomerangs for their interesting (and cheap!) merchandise, as well as their mission. Boomerangs helps provide funding for the AIDS Action Committee (AAC),which works to prevent new HIV infections and improve the lives of people already living with HIV/AIDS in Massachusetts.

We have lots of meetings on various Cambridge issues that are open to the public, so please come by and make your voice heard!

First Post!

Hi everyone,
