New Developments in Monteiro Discrimination Case
On August 19, the City Manager said he is dropping all appeals in the case of Melvina Monteiro.  I was quoted correctly in the Boston Globe on Saturday, August 20.  This was a very sad day for Cambridge because the court had ruled against on three separate occasions in this discrimination suit. Endings and New Beginnings
The last two weeks have been a very interesting time in my life.  Some good news, some sad news.  On August 11, my niece Samantha Morrison went into the hospital to have a baby.  That evening, she and I had a long conversation with Zelma Evelyn.  Zelma seemed so happy for Samantha and sounded so good.  Both Samantha and I were so happy for Zelma, as we had been part of her 90th birthday...

City Council Meeting
Last night, August 1, the City Council met.  Among our discussion items was the Office of College Success, based on Geoffrey Canada’s Harlem Childrens’ Zone (HCZ).  I was inspired by a trip and workshop in 2007 to recreate the HCZ in Cambridge.  I also introduced a resolution congratulating Carl Barron on his upcoming 95th birthday!  Stay tuned for more info on this.
